The story behind the development of Level 99

– About the start of Level 99.
　Recently, Toys Heart released Seventeen Reality as a single-layered

　, thick, realistic onahole, rather than a two-layered one. By delivering a truly realistic experience, it has become a huge hit, threatening the other Seventeen series. The Seventeen series, synonymous with Toys Heart, originally began with a two-layered structure, so I had always wondered whether it was okay to continue selling single-layered onaholes. Since it’s selling well, it’s accepted by users, so there’s probably no problem (lol).

　After that, we held several development meetings, and little by little, we exchanged ideas, saying, “Maybe a two-layer structure can recreate a completely new user experience like never before.” However, there were limits to what we could achieve by simply varying the softness of the material, and we couldn’t come up with anything particularly interesting. So we thought, “The only other thing I can think of is to embed a material as hard as plastic in this! But it’ll be interesting, so let’s give it a try,” and explored, but it was more difficult than we’d anticipated. …We

　immediately realized that this wouldn’t work (lol). It made us realize that simply cramming every interesting idea into a single product doesn’t necessarily result in a good product. From there, the idea came up in an internal meeting: “Wouldn’t it be a first if we combined different materials, not just different hardness?” We immediately looked into it, and found no masturbators made with different materials, even from other companies. We agreed, “At least we’re 100% sure that this is a first for Toy’s Heart,” and so development began.

　From then on, we decided to forgo unnecessary considerations like adding plastic and instead focused on “Let’s have fun with the two-layer structure!” and “The potential of Toy’s Heart’s two-layer masturbators goes beyond this!” We all worked hard under the banner of “Defeat! All the other two-layer masturbators in the world!”

　At the time, everyone was so enthusiastic that no one noticed, “Could this be the end of our flagship product, the two-layer Seventeen series…?” (laughs) I’m still nervous as I write this. That said, these two-layer masturbators offer completely different sensations, so I expect preferences will be divided: “I’m a Seventeen fan!” or “I’m a Level 99 fan!” And what’s even more confusing for customers is the “Personal Nurse,” which will be released in April, the same month as the Level 99. It features a front and back two-layer structure (laughs). This product also has a different concept, with different hardness of material between the front and back halves.

-About the product name and concept
　: Going back to the topic, “Level 99” wasn’t originally named that way. We had many name ideas, such as “Max Desire” to emphasize the feeling of pleasure or maximum desire, but nothing quite felt right, so we continued to check the usability and go through a process of trial and error without deciding on a product name. However, we realized that simply combining different materials felt no different to the usual two-layer structure and was completely uninteresting. We were starting to feel a bit resigned, thinking, “This isn’t going to beat Seventeen, it’s just your average two-layer masturbator.” Then, by chance, I was cutting and collecting pieces of an onahole, and it looked like yellowtail sashimi! It might sound like I’m just playing around, but while we were talking about how we wanted to eat yellowtail sashimi, how we didn’t like the bloody part, and how that part was delicious, my eye fell on the ratio of the yellowtail’s bloody to white meat. And then, it hit me: “This is it!!” …I’m not using this as an excuse to just play around (laughs).

　For the next prototype, we deliberately redesigned the inner material to have thick and thin sections, and when we tried out several prototypes using different materials, a strange change in thickness occurred, and for some reason, some employees had the illusion of thinking, “Huh? Is this shaped just for me?” But since everyone’s size down there is bound to be different, it’s a complete illusion. However, as we continued to use it, the illusion of it gradually becoming more familiar grew, and this gradually evolved into a strange sensation that could be described as a self-imposed belief: “This feeling of being tormented just for me again has gotten stronger, hasn’t it?” It was really interesting.

　From there, we came up with the name proposal to best capture this feeling: “Level 99 – Raise me one more level with your own hands.” I remember we all unanimously agreed, saying, “That’s interesting!”

　Once that was decided, everyone was familiar with the rest, and work progressed smoothly. We continued trial and error on the illustrations and packaging design to convey this mysterious and wonderful feeling of use, and as the product neared completion, excitement within the company grew. Around this time, everyone began to realize, “Huh? What if this sells better than the Seventeen series? (sweats).”

　But there was no turning back now. We just had to release it. Then, someone suddenly realized something. “We released “Level 69″ in the past! It’s leveled up without us even realizing it!” Looking back, we found that it was released about 20 years ago, but we all seem to think the same way (lol). I hope you’ll read it as a funny story about how Toys Heart accidentally created a product with a similar name.

– Regarding the illustrations
　: Despite conflicting thoughts of “beating the Seventeen series!” and “what if it sells better than the Seventeen series?”, we decided to commission “Akatsuki Hijiri,” the illustrator for Seventeen Bordeaux.

　When I created two types of character images for a cute girl who could exist in real life, the opinions that came up within the company coincidentally were quite favorable to Akatsuki Sei-sensei. Even though I hadn’t had Seventeen in mind, I ended up requesting the same illustrator, Akatsuki Sei-sensei. I remember feeling relieved when I received a reply right away, even though it had been a while since my last request.
