Actress Rikako Yagi turns 20, and this is her first photo book.

In 2016, as soon as she made her debut at the age of 14, she was selected as a brand character for Pocari Sweat, known as “the gateway to success for new actresses,” and became a big topic of conversation. She also won the grand prix at “Miss Seventeen 2016” held by Seventeen magazine and became an exclusive model. Recently, Rikako Yagi has been expanding her activities as an actress, with a string of films in which she has appeared, and she has a promising future ahead of her.

This book is a collection of photographs taken over the three and a half years from the time she was 17 until now, when she turned 20. The photographs were taken by Masumi Ishida, an up-and-coming young photographer who, at only 23 years old, has worked for magazines such as “GINZA” and “POPEYE” as well as on numerous artworks, including creative work for “Calorie Mate” advertisements.

Yagi and Ishida’s relationship began in December 2018 when they met during a shoot for a magazine. The two naturally empathized with each other and deepened their friendship in their private lives, taking time out from their work to shoot together. The filming took place in Yagi’s hometown of Shiga, Hokkaido (where the drama takes place), Tokyo (where they live out their new lives), and at a joyous coming-of-age ceremony, making for a road movie of sorts.

In this intense time that only the two of them can create, Yagi shows a natural side to Ishida that only he can show to Ishida, whom he feels comfortable with. Ishida responds to Yagi’s subtle messages through the lens of the camera, and the two share a fragile but hopeful time as they move from their teens to their twenties.

Ishida captured the “light” within Rikako Yagi through her photographs, observing her complex emotions and changes of state of mind as she moved from her teens to her twenties, fragile and hopeful.

Yagi turns 20, joins the ranks of adults, and heads into the future.

In this book of over 250 pages, Yagi’s troubles, sufferings, sorrows, encounters, partings, and joys, all of her moments are captured.

Masumi Ishida

Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1998. In 2017, she held her first solo exhibition “GINGERALE” at Omotesando Rocket. The following year, he published his first book of works, “light years”.
